BNP leader Ishraque Hossain on Friday spoke about his responsibilities as the Dhaka South City Corporation mayor following the High Court verdict.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “The oath is merely a formality. As the people’s mayor, it is my responsibility to ensure that there are adequate preparations for waste management before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.”
"I assure the residents of Dhaka that I will support the Dhaka North City Corporation administration and its cleaning staff in performing their duties until a mayor is elected."
Ishraque added, “In the South city, I will approve a zone-based monitoring team by coordinating with former councillors and candidates from the last election. By afternoon (in 16 hours), I will take steps to create a comfortable environment. I myself will be present alongside the cleaners there.”
