If the election roadmap is not announced by December, it will be difficult for the BNP to continue cooperation with this government, said BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the Gulshan Chairperson’s office on Thursday while sharing the decisions taken in the context of the party’s standing committee discussions.
Khandaker Mosharraf said, “The highest priority now is to establish an elected political government as soon as possible in accordance with the people’s aspirations, in order to ensure the democratic rights, constitutional rights, human rights and voting rights lost to the people, embodying the aspirations of the July-Student mass uprising. Therefore, we are demanding an immediate announcement of a specific roadmap for the formation of a national parliament by December 2025 through fair, free and impartial elections.”
He also said that the people believe that giving top priority to this highest aspiration of the people should be the main agenda of the current interim government. Otherwise, it will be difficult for BNP as a party of the people to continue its cooperation with this government.
At this time, he said to the media men, “If the issues that are being presented to you through this press conference are ignored like our previous proposals and suggestions, it will be unfortunate and in that case, BNP will inevitably be forced to reconsider whether to continue its cooperation with the interim government.”
Musharraf said, “The fascist Awami regime has fallen, the mass uprising of the students and the public has won; but in the last 9 and a half months, to what extent the public expectations or the aspirations of the mass uprising have been fulfilled is a huge question. The national unity against fascism has started to crack.”
Musharraf said, “In the interest of maintaining the neutrality of the interim government, some controversial advisors whose statements and actions are tarnishing the image of the government should be resigned.”
He said, “Everyone knows and understands that all the advisors of the interim government are directly and indirectly involved with a new political party; their presence in the Advisory Council is constantly questioning the government's non-partisan identity. So it is necessary to exempt them to protect the government's image. The party demanded that the government's various statements and actions regarding the humanitarian corridor and Chittagong Port be given top priority, considering whether national interests are being protected.”
