A court in Barguna on Thursday sent former deputy minister Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu to jail.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Moniruzzaman gave the order as former lawmaker Shambhu was produced before the court, reports BSS.
A case was filed on April 30 this year against 158 AL leaders, including Shambhu, on charge of damaging and setting fire on district BNP office on March 17, 2023.
The lawyers of Shambhu appealed for his bail saying he was five-time parliament member. But the court rejected the bail prayer and ordered to send him to jail.
Detectives arrested Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu from Dhaka’s Uttara area on November 12 last year.
He was later shown arrested in three cases -- one on murder charge with Dhaka’s New Market Thana, one with Ashulia Thana of Dhaka district and third one with Barguna Sadar thana.
