BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie on Friday alleged that a “deep conspiracy” is underway to destabilize Bangladesh’s political environment and undermine the democratic process, pointing to recent incidents of violence, including the throwing of a water bottle at a government adviser.
Speaking at a rally in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, Annie claimed the attack was part of a broader effort to sow chaos ahead of future elections. “All this is being done to pit one side against another and create instability,” he said. “There is an invisible force working behind the scenes, and it is slowly becoming visible who is disrupting this democratic process.”
Citing the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Samya as part of a conspiracy, Annie said, Chhatra Dal emerging leader Shahriar Samya has been killed. This is part of a conspiracy.
“There is no opportunity to look at it in isolation. Some want to create a stir in the atmosphere. A procession is coming from Jagannath University. Many processions are taking place in Dhaka city. We have to sit with them. We have to discuss with their representatives. We have to send them off after discussing.”
She said that the interim government will not be able to accept all the demands right now. Where there has been looting, irregularities and oppression for 17 years. Even if the elected government comes, it will not be able to solve all the problems. Now the interim government will not be able to accept all the demands in these few days.
“Many are raising demands. We have to try to find solutions to these. But the way the police beat the students there, they did not fix that either. There is a conspiracy again. The conspiracy is to heat up the atmosphere and disrupt the voting atmosphere, to make the normal atmosphere abnormal. A group is sitting with money. They are doing these things from afar.”
The BNP leader said, “Our demand to the interim government is to speed up the trial process of Sheikh Hasina, make it visible. So far, we have not seen a trial verdict, we have not seen an order. Many cases have been filed against those who were with Hasina, those who looted from top to bottom. But the trial must be visible. If there is a quick and transparent trial through the legal process, on the one hand Hasina will be banned, on the other hand Awami League will be banned. We have been saying this repeatedly.”
