Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami acting secretary general Maulana ATM Masum has issued a statement calling for the acceptance of the just demands of Jagannath University (JnU) students and teachers.
In a statement on Thursday, he said, "We are observing with concern that the students and teachers of Jagannath University have been protesting for the past few days over their accommodation crisis and other demands. As a result of their protest, the educational environment of Jagannath University is being disrupted and the studies of the students are being disrupted. Such a turbulent situation on the campus is not desirable for anyone."
He also said, "The students and teachers of Jagannath University have been suffering from various problems including the accommodation crisis for a long time. No previous government has solved these problems for them. As a result, the students and teachers have been forced to join the movement to realize their just demands. It is the responsibility of the government to immediately find a just solution to their just demands through talks with the students and teachers."
ATM Masum said, "Therefore, we strongly urge the government to restore a fair educational environment at Jagannath University by accepting their just demands through discussions with students and teachers."
