Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior leader Mirza Abbas on Thursday alleged that the country's independence and sovereignty are at risk under the current interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.
He expressed concern over the nation’s geographical integrity, stating, “The elected government will decide on the corridor; you [the interim government] are not the ones to decide. Make the government’s position clear regarding Sajek, Saint Martin, and the corridor.”
Abbas made these remarks while inaugurating the BNP Cumilla Division’s membership distribution and renewal programme at the Cumilla Shilpakala Academy.
Addressing allegations of extortion against the BNP, he responded, “The BNP is not involved in extortion or encroachments; it is the associates of the current government who are engaged in such actions.”
He further added, “Previously, our only enemy was the Awami League, but now the BNP has many adversaries. Our leader, Tarique Rahman, has still not been able to return to the country."
The event was attended by Selim Bhuiyan, Organizing Secretary of the Cumilla Divisional BNP, Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin, adviser to the BNP Chairperson, along with leaders from Cumilla City, Cumilla South, and Cumilla North districts.
