The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned four individuals, including Gazi Salauddin Tanvir, the suspended joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for questioning in connection with corruption allegations.
Also summoned are Moazzem Hossain, former assistant private secretary (APS) to the local government adviser; Tuhin Farabi, former personal officer (PO) to the health adviser; and Mahmudul Hasan, the current PO.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhtar Hossain revealed the development during a press briefing held at the commission’s head office on Thursday. According to the ACC, Tuhin Farabi and Mahmudul Hasan are to appear on May 20, Tanvir on May 21, and Moazzem Hossain on May 22.
The summons follows a formal request submitted on April 27 by the Jubo Odhikar Parishad, urging the ACC to initiate a probe into alleged corruption involving the advisers’ APS and PO. In support of the demand, two High Court lawyers, Advocate Nadim Mahmud and Advocate Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, also submitted similar complaints to the commission.
ACC sources confirmed that official letters summoning the individuals were sent to both their permanent and official addresses.
Moazzem Hossain had earlier resigned from his APS post on April 22. He previously served as APS to Youth, Sports and Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain. Meanwhile, Tuhin Farabi, a student representative and former PO to Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, was dismissed from his role due to corruption allegations.
Gazi Salauddin Tanvir has been summoned on charges of amassing hundreds of crores of taka through corruption and abuse of power. According to ACC Director Md Rafiquzzaman, the allegations against Tanvir include lobbying, extortion, tender manipulation, and interference in official appointments.
On April 21, the NCP suspended Tanvir from the party following accusations that he took commissions from textbook procurement deals under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board and meddled in the appointment of deputy commissioners.
