Sheikh Shaira Sharmin, the wife of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partho, was barred from traveling abroad by immigration authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday.
Sources at the airport reported that Sharmin had completed check-in procedures for Thai Airways flight TG322 to Bangkok at 1:35 PM. However, immigration officials stopped her during clearance and prevented her from boarding the plane. No official explanation for the restriction has been provided.
Sharmin is closely connected to the ruling Awami League family. She is the daughter of Sheikh Helal Uddin, a nephew of the country's founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the sister of former MP Sheikh Tonmoy.
