The High Court of Bangladesh has waived a 587-day delay in the appeal filed by Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, clearing the way for her to challenge her three-year prison sentence.
The order was passed on Tuesday (May 13) by a High Court bench led by Justice Md. Khasruzzaman after a hearing on the petition. With the waiver granted, Zubaida Rahman is now permitted to formally appeal the verdict handed down in the corruption case against her.
The decision marks a significant legal development for Zubaida Rahman, who had been facing procedural hurdles in contesting her conviction due to the long delay in filing the appeal. Her legal team had sought condonation of the delay, citing valid reasons which the court found satisfactory.
Further proceedings in the case are expected to follow as the appeal process formally begins.
