Regarding the cancellation of the Awami League's (AL) registration following the government's ban on the party’s activities, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin said, "You will see when the sun rises."
He made this comment in response to a journalist's question after a meeting at the Election Commission building on Monday.
The Chief Election Commissioner said, “We haven’t received the gazette notification from the government regarding the ban on the party's activities yet. Without the gazette, we can’t make any decision. If there is no official gazette, nothing can be said.”
When asked whether the registration could be cancelled if a gazette notification is issued, he replied, “he replied, "We'll be able to comment once that actually happens. We are working in the interest of the country — things will become clear in due time.”
In response to another question, the CEC added, “The Election Commission is an institution of Bangladesh. We are concerned. Once we receive the gazette on the ban of activities, action will be taken.”
