Educational institutions across Bangladesh are set to observe extended holidays of up to 19 days in June, as Eid-ul-Adha vacation will merge with the summer break, according to the 2025 academic calendar released by the Ministry of Education.
Government and non-government secondary schools will begin their holidays on June 1, continuing until June 19. Meanwhile, government and non-government colleges will observe Eid holidays from June 3 to June 12.
To balance the extended break, the Ministry has ordered schools and colleges to remain open on two Saturdays: May 17 and May 24.
In a circular issued to relevant institutions, the Ministry noted that June 11 and 12 (Wednesday and Thursday) have been declared official public holidays. Consequently, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices are instructed to stay open on May 17 and May 24.
The letter further requested all institutions to ensure compliance by remaining operational on those two Saturdays to mitigate academic and administrative disruptions.
Additionally, government primary schools will be closed for a longer period — from June 3 to June 23 — covering both Eid and summer breaks.
The Ministry's directive aims to maintain academic continuity while allowing students and staff time to celebrate Eid with their families.
