Students and general people have been demonstrating at Dhaka’s Shahbag on Saturday — the second consecutive day.
Protesters are demanding a ban on the fascist Awami League, along with three other demands.
Demonstrators were seen chanting slogans such as “Ban, ban, ban Awami League” and “Abu Saeed Mughdho, the war is not over,” among others.
On Friday, protesters announced indefinite demonstrations at Shahbag until the Awami League is banned. Many spent the night there, and they were seen resting on the roads on Saturday morning as well.
Traffic halted
Due to the sit-in protest, barricades have been placed on every road at the Shahbagh intersection, halting vehicle movement. Like Friday, transportation has been disrupted since Saturday morning.
The demonstration began around 5 pm on Friday. Before that, Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (southern region) of the National Citizen Party, had announced the protest from a stage beside InterContinental Dhaka, demanding the ban on the Awami League. Protesters began gathering in the Shahbag area at 4:45 pm, following his call to block the intersection.
At 11 pm on Friday, Abdullah urged protesters to gather at Shahbag again at 3 pm on Saturday.
