The government has formed the International Crimes Tribunal 2 to reduce the work load of cases filed in the International Crimes Tribunal, speed up the trial process and share the workload.
Former Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has been appointed as the chairman of this tribunal.
Retired District and Sessions judge Md. Manjurul Bashir and Madaripur district and sessions judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir have been appointed as members.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Law and Justice Department on Thursday, signed by Law and Justice Department secretary Sheikh Abu Taher.
The notification states that the chairman and members of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 will enjoy salaries and allowances at the same level as the judges of the High Court Division and other government facilities.
Besides, the existing International Crimes Tribunal has been renamed as 'International Crimes Tribunal-1'. The members of this tribunal are - Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
The concerned people have expressed hope that this decision of the government will speed up the trial process.
