A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent actor Siddiqur Rahman to jail in an attempted murder case related to the July mass uprising.
Judge of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Jakir Hossain, passed the order following a petition filed by the investigation officer of the case.
Earlier on 30 April, Siddiq was placed on a seven-day remand in connection with the same case.
Earlier, a group of people, identifying themselves as Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, assaulted actor Siddique while he was passing through Bailey Road on 29 April.
Then he was first taken to Ramna Police Station and later handed over to Gulshan Police Station.
According to the case statement, on 19 July last year, during the anti-discrimination movement, shots were fired at protesters in front of Confidence Tower in Shahjadpur area of Gulshan and Jabbar Ali Hawlader, a van driver, sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Later, he filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against 109 people, including Siddique and the ousted prime minister.
Siddique from Madhupur upazila of Tangail sought nominations from Awami League for Dhaka-17 and Tangail-1 constituencies in the 2023 national election, as well as for the Dhaka-17 seat in a by-election, but his attempt went in vain.
