Thousands of party leaders and activists thronged the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area from early morning to greet the former prime minister, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia whose flight—arranged by the Emir of Qatar—is scheduled to land around 10:30 am.
After her arrival, she will proceed to her Gulshan residence, Firoza.
BNP activists from different levels were seen occupying the pavements on both sides of the road, holding party flags and national flags, chanting slogans in anticipation of her arrival.
Due to the expected large gathering, traffic police have also been seen active in the area to manage congestion.
According to party sources, Dhaka North BNP will take position from the airport to Le Méridien Hotel, while Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will be stationed from Le Méridien to Khilkhet. Jubo Dal members will cover the stretch from Khilkhet to Radisson Hotel.
On 8 January, Khaleda Zia travelled to the UK for advanced medical treatment. She had been under the care of specialists at the London Clinic. Upon learning about her deteriorating health, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, sent an air ambulance for her journey to the UK. She is returning home on the same air ambulance.
