National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman has stated that no agreement has yet been reached on the launch of a humanitarian corridor in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking as the special guest at a seminar which focused on Rohingya repatriation and regional security.
Armed Forces Division (AFD) and Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) arranged the seminar in the capital.
Khalilur Rahman said that rumors are being spread on social media claiming that Bangladesh is starting a proxy war in Arakan on behalf of the United States, which is never desirable.
He asserted that the Rohingyas would never be granted Bangladeshi citizenship. If that happens, Bangladesh will become a dumping ground for neighboring countries.
“There are discussions underway regarding a proposal to open a humanitarian corridor in Rakhine,” he said, “but no agreement or official decision has been made so far.”
He further said, “The United Nations will operate the corridor. Food and relief will be transported through this, but not arms. This initiative will help to keep Rakhine safe.”
He said, “Bangladesh has initiated contact with the rebel group Arakan Army to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid in Rakhine State and to maintain regional stability. Whoever the neighbor may be, it is essential to maintain communication and relations with them.”
