The National Citizens Party (NCP) will hold a protest rally in Dhaka on Friday, demanding a ban on Awami League (AL) politics. The protest rally will be held at the south gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram at 3 pm under the initiative of the party's Dhaka Metropolitan.
The party's convener, Nahid Islam, posted a video message on his verified Facebook page on Thursday night inviting people from all walks of life to join the protest rally.
In the video message, he said, “The students and the masses of Bangladesh overthrew the Awami League, a political party with a fascist ideology called Mujibism, from the land of Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, through the historic mass uprising of the students and the masses. But we see with sadness that even after so long, the people of the Awami League still dare to hold a procession on the land of Bangladesh under their party banner.”
“No visible initiative has been taken by the interim government to ban the Awami League and make the Awami League's trial activities visible. We have been saying since August 5 that the Awami League has no moral right to do politics on the land of Bangladesh and legal arrangements must be taken for it.”
He said that the Awami League has established fascism in Bangladesh for the past one and a half decades. Awami League is involved in several massacres in Bangladesh. People of opposition politics have been victims of disappearances, murders and crossfire. The mass uprising was held to try all these.
He further said, “We had demanded a trial for the Awami League as a party. That too was not visible to us. As a result, we are taking to the streets again. The Awami League must be brought under trial as a party. All the organiza- tions under Awami League must be banned.”
