A chamber judge of the Appellate Division on Wednesday evening suspended the High Court’s order granting bail to controversial Hindu nationalist leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case.
Chamber judge Md Rezaul Haque ordered the suspension of bail for Chinmoy.
Earlier, in the afternoon, Advocate-on-record Helal Amin filed for suspending the bail order on behalf of the state.
In the noon, the High Court bench of Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza passed the bail order after holding hearing on a bail petition filed by Chinmoy.
On 4 February, the High Court issued a rule questioning why Chinmoy should not be granted bail.
On 31 October last year, Firoz Khan, former general secretary of Chattogram's Mohora ward BNP, filed the sedition case with Kotwali Police Station, accusing Chinmoy and 18 others of disrespecting the national flag during a rally on 25 October in the port city's New Market area.
On 26 November, a Chattogram court sent Chinmoy to jail, rejecting his bail prayer after he was arrested in the capital the previous day.
On 11 December last year, the same court rejected his bail petition in the same case.
