Endorsing the December–June timeline proposed by Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that December and April are the most suitable months within this period for holding the next general election.
“Jamaat wants elections between December and June. The suitable months during this period are December and April. It will not be possible to hold polls outside this time-frame due to unfavourable conditions such as rains and storms,” he stated.
Dr. Shafiqur made these remarks while addressing a discussion with members of the Hindu community, organised by the Kulaura upazila unit of Jamaat in Moulvibazar district on Tuesday. The event was part of the party’s ongoing nationwide mass-contact programme.
He also noted that, due to the ongoing electoral reforms, there is currently a 50/50 chance that the election will be held in December.
