Work is underway to return former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda to home by air ambulance at the party’s request, said Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain.
He said this in response to a question from journalists at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
The 79-year-old former Prime Minister is now at the residence of her eldest son Tarique Rahman after undergoing treatment in London. BNP leaders said that she will return to the country soon.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain said that the Foreign Ministry is working to prepare an air ambulance for Begum Khaleda Zia’s return from the UK.
Earlier, BNP had appealed to the government to bring Begum Khaleda Zia back to the country by air ambulance.
Begum Khaleda Zia arrived at London’s Heathrow International Airport on January 7 in a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar. She was taken directly from immigration to a London clinic. There, she was treated under the supervision of Professor John Patrick Kennedy.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had been suffering from various physical ailments including liver cirrhosis, kidney, heart, diabetes, and arthritis for a long time. Her doctors said that she is now healthy after completing treatment.
