The Election Commission (EC) has published a gazette announcing the name of BNP leader Engineer Ishraque Hossain as the new mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The commission issued the gazette on Sunday.
Earlier, on April 22, the Election Commission (EC) wrote to the Law Ministry seeking its opinion on whether its possible to declare Ishraque the winner as the mayor of Dhaka South. After receiving a positive response from there, the CEC held a meeting with other commissioners and officials, where the decision to issue the gazette was taken that night.
The court declared Ishraque Hossain, son of former mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, as the mayor, on March 27 this year, nullifying the results of the DSCC election held in 2020.
