The interim government will consider options if it is asked to mediate between India and Pakistan amid boiling tensions between the two countries over a recent terrorist attack in India-administered Kashmir, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain told reporters on Sunday.
However, the government would not move in advance, before getting any proposal, the adviser clarified when asked about the government’s plans to defuse the tensions.
Speaking on the ministry premises, Touhid said the government’s position is clear: it wants peace in South Asia. The government would always prefer talks between India and Pakistan, and stand against prospects of conflict.
A potential conflict would not impact Bangladesh, he noted.
“If trade is impacted, the government would take necessary steps to shield the economy.”
