A Dhaka court issued arrest warrants against actress Meher Afroz Shaon, ex-DB chief Harun-or-Rashid, and former ADC Nazmul in a case filed by Shaon’s stepmother, Nishi Islam.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the order after hearing a petition, according to court sources.
According to reports, on March 13, Shaon’s stepmother, Nishi Islam, filed a case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court, accusing 12 individuals of attempted murder and physical assault.
On the same day, the court recorded the plaintiff’s statement, issued summonses for the accused to appear, and set April 22 for the hearing in the presence of both parties.
As they failed to appear in court, the judge issued arrest warrants against them.
The other accused in the case are—former DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of CTTC Unit Nazmul Islam, Mohamamd Ali, Mahin, Shinjan, Sejuti, Sabbir, Subrata Das, Mainul Hossain, Inspector Saiful Islam Bhuiya, sub-inspector Shah Alam, Mokhlesur Rahman Milton.
Of the 12 accused, Saiful Islam Bhuiya and Shah Alam surrendered before the court and secured bail.
According to the case statement, Mohammad Ali, father of Shaon, married Nishi Islam concealing his first marriage on February 21, 2024. After marriage, Nishi came to know that Mohammad Ali was father of one son and three daughters.
On February 28, Shinjan, sister of Shaon and her husband Sabbir asked Nishi not to disclose the marriage.
On March 4, Ali asked Nishi to go to his Gulshan residence as he was not feeling well. When Nishi went to the residence, the accused pushed her out holding her neck and tried to take a signature on a blank paper. Being denied, the accused including Shaon, ADC Nazmul physically assaulted her, making her unconscious.
On April 24, 2024, Inspector Shah Jalal and Shaon allegedly assaulted Nishi at the DB office. DB chief Harun reportedly instructed the Badda Police OC to file a case against her, leading to her arrest.
The next day, she was remanded, tortured, and falsely accused of being a drug dealer.
