Law Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said in addition to prosecuting human rights violations, necessary legal and institutional reforms will be made to prevent such crimes from happening again in the future.
Furthermore, he said that prosecuting all disappearances, murders and crimes against humanity committed in Bangladesh is the top priority of this government.
He shared this information at a view-sharing meeting held at the seminar hall of the Judicial Administration Training Institute on College Road in the capital on Tuesday. The meeting was organized by the Law Ministry on the proposed 'Disappearance Prevention and Remedies Ordinance, 2025'.
Asif Nazrul said, “Many people ask whether the next government will keep the laws that are being made because many good laws were formed during the first/eleventh government. Later, the Awami League government did not keep them.”
He said, “I tell everyone that the next government will come through a framework built on the blood of at least 1,000 people. Behind them will be the memories of 50-60 thousand people being injured, and the tears of millions of people. After such a big legacy, our next government will forget our reforms? I don't even want to imagine it. We want to involve political parties and stakeholders in all the reform processes. They should never be able to say that we had no participation here.”
He said, “Among the priorities of our government, ensuring justice for the disappearances, murders, crimes against humanity, and the most brutal incidents that took place in the history of Bangladesh during the tenure of the previous fascist Sheikh Hasina government is one of them. That is why we are enacting various laws. We are supporting the international human rights law. We are taking institutional steps. At the same time, we have started the trial process.”
“You have many concerns about the trial process, and might be worried that whether there will be any delay here. I don't think we have any negligence. I want to assure you that this is among our highest priorities.”
