BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed strong optimism on Saturday that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the newly appointed head of the interim government, would be successful in addressing the nation's political and other pressing issues. Speaking at a discussion, Fakhrul conveyed his hope that positive changes were on the horizon for Bangladesh, thanks to Dr. Yunus’ leadership, reports UNB.
“We have problems, but they will be resolved. In fact, much progress has already been made,” Fakhrul said. “I want to thank Professor Yunus for accepting the responsibility of running the country. I truly believe that he will succeed. Let us all lend our support, help ourselves, and move forward together.”
The discussion, titled “Ambassador Sirajul Islam’s Vision of Empowering Bangladesh: Leadership, Unity and Growth, Diplomacy and Governance for the Country’s Transformation,” was organized by Empowerment Bangladesh in collaboration with North South University’s Department of History and Philosophy. It focused on leadership, governance, and the country’s transformation.
Fakhrul also acknowledged the growing frustration among the people, which is fueled by the constant barrage of television talk shows and political speeches. He emphasized the concerns of the public regarding the future, especially in light of the sacrifices made during the July-August uprising in 2024.
“I firmly believe that something good will surely happen,” Fakhrul stated with confidence. “It will be very good. We, the people of Bangladesh, have always fought for what is right and have triumphed time and again.”
The BNP leader further highlighted that the youth of Bangladesh have always been at the forefront of the country’s democratic movements. From the Language Movement of 1952 to the 2024 mass uprising, it was the youth that played a critical role in shaping the nation’s democratic path.
“But I want to emphasise one thing,” Fakhrul said. “There is no alternative to democracy. Democracy cannot be imposed; it must be practiced. And the spaces for practicing democracy must always remain open.”
In his remarks, Fakhrul urged the nation to unite in support of Dr. Yunus and the necessary reforms, underlining the importance of democratic values and governance in shaping a brighter future for Bangladesh.
