At least 49 people have been arrested and two cases filed in connection with attacks and vandalism at shops and business establishments during a protest against the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday morning.
A group of protesters vandalised a KFC restaurant and a Bata showroom in Sylhet on Monday, alleging that the brands have ties to Israel.
The incidents occurred in the city's Mirabazar and Dargagate areas in the afternoon.
Witnesses said a group of agitated people attacked the KFC outlet at Mirabazar around 3pm.
They damaged several beverage bottles inside the restaurant. In response to the attack, the restaurant was closed by the management.
Around the same time, another group vandalised the Bata showroom in the Dargagate area.
