A decision has been taken to introduce a shortcode along with the police hotline service to prevent violence against women.
This is one of the four initiatives of the government to digitize the police.
Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Postal, Telecommunication and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, shared this information.
He said, “The government has undertaken the work of creating a police command app to ensure the smooth operation of all types of police activities of the Bangladesh Police and the security of the internal communication system. Many modernization works have also been started, including incident tracking software for complaint management, shortcode and online General Diary (GD) to prevent violence against women, and online or shortcode cases or FIRs.”
He said that any complaint regarding violence against women can be filed by adding another 3 to the current national helpline 333 and dialing 3333. Or by calling 333 and going to the service option and pressing 3, it will be forwarded to the police call center. In order for women to feel free to report complaints, a plan is being made to have 100% female members in the call center. However, since the 999 life-saving SOS service and the process of increasing its call center capacity is time-consuming, this 3333 service is not being included in 999 for the time being.
“In addition, the government is thinking and considering having 100% female staff as the receivers of the 3333 call center,” he said.
“Furthermore, changes are also coming to the method of filing general diaries online. An online FIR system is being added. In this case, after the profile is downloaded at the call center, the call will go directly to the concerned police station. Currently, work is being done on a database of phone numbers of police station officials,” said Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor.
