Former state minister for industries, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, declared that he would no longer be involved in Awami League (AL).
He made the declaration at a Dhaka court on Monday around 10 am. He was presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka as part of legal proceedings to show him as arrested in a murder case filed with Kafrul Police Station.
"I am 76 years old and a diabetes patient. Seventy per cent of my eyesight is gone. I cannot communicate with my family; I am not even allowed to see them.
“Till death, I will no longer be involved in Awami League politics. I hold no position in the party. I also resign from my general membership," he declared.
He pleaded to the judge, saying, "I seek justice from you. I am being subjected to oppression through one case after another. At this age, I should be spending time playing with my grandchildren, but instead, I am being tortured in prison. There is no option left but to call upon Allah.”
“The prison authorities are not providing me with a digital Quran or a device to measure my blood sugar. I request access to a digital Quran, my diabetes medication, and a blood sugar monitor," he urged.
Majumder told journalists, reiterating, "I am completely withdrawing from politics, including my general membership in the Awami League. I hold no position in the party. At the age of 76, I can no longer do politics.”
“It is time for new leadership to emerge,” he commented.
He and other accused individuals were taken to the CMM court's detention facility.
Kamal Ahmed Majumder was arrested on October 19 last year from a residence in Gulshan, Dhaka. Since then, he has been shown as arrested in several murder and attempted murder cases.
