The new political party to be launched under the initiative of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee has been named 'National Citizens Party' (Jatiya Nagorik Party in Bengali).
The political party will launch at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital at 3 pm on Friday.
Nahid Islam will remain as the convener of the National Citizens Party, while Akhter Hossain will serve as the member secretary.
These decisions were made at a joint meeting of the National Citizens Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the central office of the National Citizens Committee at Rupayan Trade Center in Banglamotor on Thursday. Nahid Islam and Akhter Hossain were elected as the top leaders unopposed in the meeting.
In addition, it has been decided to make Hasnat Abdullah the main organizer of the southern region and Sarjis Alam the main organizer of the northern region.
Nasiruddin Patwari and Abdul Hannan Masud will be the top leaders in the committee.
A top leader of the National Citizens' Committee said, “Another meeting may be held tonight. The remaining issues of the leadership will be finalized there.”
Urging the people of the country to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the new party, Member Secretary Akhter Hossain said in a video message, "We will be able to officially start the journey of the new party at the inauguration ceremony tomorrow, February 28."
He said, "We have talked about the interests of Bangladesh in politics. We have said about the right, left and centrist politics. We have said about the rights and dignity of the people. We are hopeful that people of all religions, castes, and genders will participate in the inauguration ceremony."
