Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the interim government was born out of unity. He also feels that this unity has to be maintained at any cost.
“The students have demanded the issuance of the July Proclamation. If this cannot be done collectively, its purpose will be disrupted. In that case, the proclamation will not be necessary. That is why today, discussions are being held with all political parties. Seeing everyone gives me courage. As long as I am here, I will uphold this unity"
The Chief Adviser made these remarks at the beginning of an all-party meeting on the July Proclamation, held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday. The meeting began at 4:00 pm.
Various political parties and organizations participated in the meeting, including the BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Nagarik Committee, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Khelafat Majlish, and others.
At the event, the Chief Adviser said, “I feel very good when I see all of you. It gives me courage. Because this government was born amid unity. When I don’t see you around, I feel weak. But when I see you again, it feels like we are all united. Unity is our origin, and unity is our strength.”
He added, “One day, the students came to me and said they wanted to issue a proclamation. I tried to understand what kind of proclamation they wanted. They explained, and I said it wouldn’t work. It would not be right for me to declare it(the proclamation)”
Dr Yunus also said that he tried to make the students understand the importance of the spirit of August 5 that echoed unity. He stressed the fact that the proclamation had to be declared with the consent of all the stakeholders.
“Initially, they (students) weren’t too happy with my words. But later, they realized that the proclamation must be issued collectively. That’s where this discussion began.” said the Chief Adviser.
