The government has decided to drop the names of at least 2,111 Freedom Fighters (FFs) from the list, as they were under 12.6 years old during the great Liberation War of 1971.
Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam came up with the information while addressing a press conference at his ministry on Wednesday.
The ministry has set the minimum age for freedom fighters at 12 years and 6 months. A total of 2,111 Freedom Fighters fall below this age limit, said the adviser.
“We will drop their names from the Freedom Fighters’ list,” he said.
Faruk-e-Azam said there are allegations that many have enlisted without being Freedom Fighters and have taken all the government facilities.
Fake FFs can get amnesty if they leave voluntarily. Otherwise, they will be punished. Their punishment will be executed after the court's decision, he added.
According to the Liberation War Ministry, a total of 208,050 Freedom Fighters or their families are being given honorariums. Among them 196,454 are general FFs, 464 are war heroines, 5,895 are wounded Freedom Fighters, 5,333 are martyred FFs and 368 are gallantry-awarded freedom fighters.
The adviser also informed that there is no list of razakars (Collaborators) in the Liberation War Ministry.
