A court in Dhaka has imposed a travel ban on former Cumilla-6 lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar, his wife Meherunnesa, their daughter and former Cumilla City Corporation mayor Tahseen Bahar Shuchona, and his son Aiman Bahar in connection with ongoing corruption investigations.
The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jakir Hossain following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC had sought the travel restrictions as part of its investigation into allegations against the family, including illegal recruitment, running tender syndicates, embezzling funds from government projects, and accumulating illicit wealth, reports BSS.
In its plea, the ACC stated that its initial probe revealed the family had purchased multiple flats and plots across the country with money allegedly obtained through corrupt practices. The commission expressed concerns that the family might attempt to transfer these properties and flee the country, urging the court to impose the travel ban to ensure their presence during the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
