BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said elected representatives will reform the country after the national election.
He made the remarks on Monday (November 11) while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital.
Hafiz said the past 16 years were misrule of the Awami League. The only job of the leaders of the Awami League was to loot the public money, smuggle it abroad and do praising of Sheikh Mujib and his family.
He said, “The interim government has been formed led by Prof Dr Yunus. The main job of the interim government is to hand over the power to an elected government. But, we have seen that pro-Awami League men have already been included in the advisers’ council. Students as like our children. They liberated the country by sacrificing their lives. Leaders and activists of BNP and other political parties were also killed in the mass uprising. Who will count them?”
“The mass uprising of 2024 was to establish democracy in the country and for freedom of speech. The election is an element of democracy. But they (anti-discrimination movement) are saying the country’s is not liberated for the polls. So, why so many clashes, and so much sacrifice? They don’t believe in establishing a democratic society,” he continued.
Mentioning that he supports the Yunus government, Hafiz said all beneficiaries of the Awami League government will have to be removed.
