Finance adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed reiterated his determination to leave a footprint that will satisfy people in the long run.
On Monday, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, "We want to leave a footprint. Whatever we leave behind in the short or medium term, regardless of which government comes to power in the future, they should implement it. The footprint we leave should satisfy the people.”
The finance Adviser made these remarks at the third Bangladesh Economic Conference 2024, held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital.
The conference, titled "Inequality, Financial Crime, and the Recovery of Bangladesh's Economy," was organized by the daily Bonik Barta.
The adviser also said, "Currently, inequality in wealth has surpassed income inequality. We are trying to automate most government services. Even though we talk about Digital Bangladesh, it’s unfortunate that we haven’t become truly digitized. Without transparency and accountability, nothing is possible."
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has also stated that the interim only cares about the nation’s interest and they are doing their best to fulfill that
"We have been given many responsibilities. We will be able to implement the medium-term plans. The long-term plans will be implemented by the elected government. The interim government has no personal agenda in governing; our agenda is the nation’s interest. We are trying to fulfill that," said the adviser.
Other speakers at the conference included Dr. Mustafa K. Mujeri, Executive Director of the Institute of Inclusive Finance and Development (InM); Mohammad Javed Akhtar, Chairman and Managing Director of Unilever Bangladesh Limited; and Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University.
