Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity on Wednesday urged the government to extend the Eid-ul Fitr vacation for two more days, reports Daily Sun.
This year, about 1 crore 60 lakh people will travel from Dhaka city to celebrate Eid in different districts of the country.
To reduce the suffering during the Eid journey, road accidents, unbearable traffic congestion, passenger harassment on the way, and fare anarchy Jatri Kalyan Samity came up with the demand.
Jatri Kalyan Samity Secretary General Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury made the demand at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
If the executive order declares holidays on 8 and 9 April, holidaymakers will have uninterrupted leave from April 5 to 14. This arrangement will facilitate smooth travel for passengers returning home for Eid, minimizing any disruptions. Consequently, suffering will get reduced.
He also demanded that authorities take steps to stop private buses and launch operators overcharging passengers during the Eid rush.
