State minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu said, “The prices of daily commodities will come to a reasonable level soon. Directorate of sales, directorate of consumers, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers will adjust it altogether.”
He said this to the journalists after the discussion meeting on the 104th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu organized by the Ministry of Commerce at the capital's TCB building on Sunday afternoon.
The state minister said, “Agricultural marketing department has fixed a price for the commodities. Directorate of Agriculture Marketing has its own committees at district, upazila and central levels. We will coordinate and start monitoring. Price discovery is not instantaneous. The authorities concerned will monitor and establish the market from producer level to wholesale and then to retail level.”
He said, “When you decide on a thing at the logical level, you cannot immediately implement it. It was important to determine the level first. The law has been there for a long time but has not been implemented. Now directorate of agriculture marketing, directorate of consumer affairs, UNO, DC will all coordinate together. Hopefully, it will come to a logical level.”
