A Dhaka court on Thursday sent pro-BNP Blue Panel secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal to jail in a case lodged over violence during the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman passed the order as the police produced Kazal, also former secretary of the SCBA, before the court after concluding his four-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till end of the probe.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury on March 10 had placed the pro-BNP lawyer on four-day remand in the case lodged with Shahbagh Police Station.
Police on March 9 arrested Kazal from his Topkhana Road chamber.
Earlier on that day (March 9), another court had placed five other accused lawyers on three-day remand in the case. The five accused are- Adv Qazi basher Ahmed, Adv Tushar, Adv Torikul, Adv Enamul Haque Sumon and Barrister Osman Chowdhury.
Assistant Attorney General Saifur Rahman Chowdhury Saif filed the case against 20 people for attempting to murder him.
He alleged that the accused including independent candidate Adv Nahid Sultana Juthi threatened the election commissioner to declare the result without even counting the votes, snatched one iPhone and Taka 15,000 in cash and tried to kill him with stick, chair and rod.
