The government has fixed the prices of low-grade dates at Tk150-Tk165 and Zaidi dates at Tk170-Tk180 per kg for the month of Ramadan.
Besides, the price of sugar per kg has been fixed at Tk 140. The maximum price of packaged sugar has been fixed at Tk 145. Traders have been instructed to sell dates and sugar at these prices.
The commerce ministry sent a letter to the Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importer Association on Tuesday in this regard.
According to the letter, the rational prices of dates have been set by analysing the import costs, duties and taxes imposed, and other costs incurred by the importers.
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said that the price of low-quality dates has been decided by thinking about the common people. However, the price of expensive dates has not been fixed.
He also said that the process of importing 50 thousand tons of onion from India is going on. Hopefully, it will come to the country soon. It will also reduce the price of spicy products.
The state minister said that the government is trying to reduce the prices of daily commodities. There is no shortage of products in the market. There is no discomfort with rice flour. Monitoring is being done to keep the market under control as per the instructions of the Prime Minister.
