S Alam Group Chairman and Managing Director Mohammed Saiful Alam said they will resume delivery of sugar from their industry within a day or two as they have enough ready products.
The stock is capable of continuing supply for at least one week, the group chairman said while talking to the Daily Sun during his visit at the spot on Tuesday.
Asked about the feared price hike following the devastating fire, Alam said some traders might capitalise on the fire incident to hike the sugar prices, especially before the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
“There are some traders who want to capitalise on this kind of situation. However, we already have enough stocks to deliver. Things might get settled within a few days,” he said.
He also said that it might take two days or so to resume production at the factory and it will not be a problem then.
“Currently, dousing the blaze is our main priority,” Alam added.
Although the devastating fire that broke out at S Alam Refined Sugar Industries at Karnaphuly in Chattogram was brought under control, the flames are yet to be doused completely.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the fire incident.
Meanwhile, a seven-member probe committee has been formed led by the additional deputy commissioner.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon at S Alam Sugar Mill.
