The High Court (HC) has formed a high-level probe committee headed by the Home Secretary to conduct inquiry over the death of 46 people in the fire incident in a building on Bailey Road in the capital.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque passed the order on Monday.
At the same time, the court ordered the fire service to hang notices in front of the dangerous buildings. Apart from expressing dissatisfaction with the firefighting system of restaurants in Dhaka, the court also questioned over the management of rooftop restaurants.
Earlier, a writ was filed seeking order to form a committee to investigate the incident of fire at Bailey Road in the capital. Instructions are sought to take necessary steps to stop commercial activities in the residential areas of Dhaka City Corporation including Bailey Road and to provide adequate compensation to the family members of the victims of the fire incident at Bailey Road.
