Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu revealed that the arrival of 50 thousand tons of onions from India starting this week.
Titu made this announcement during a press briefing following an event organized by the Association of Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs Bangladesh (AGWEB) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Saturday.
Titu disclosed that he had recently engaged in discussions with India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, during the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi.
Discussing the outcome of the meeting, Titu stated, "There was a meeting with the commerce minister of India at the WTO. He (Piyush Goyal) sat there and instructed to issue the letter. The letter has been issued. We have received a copy of the letter. We got the letter tomorrow."
Highlighting the significance of the development, Titu emphasized, "50 thousand metric tons of onion will start coming from India from this week. Our aim is that consumers do not have to buy daily necessities at high prices before Ramadan."
