A Madaripur court on Monday sentenced three fugitives to death for killing a man in 2013.
The condemned convicts are—Fazle, Sentu and Miraj of Gouranadi upazila in Barishal district.
All three of them were tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 50,000.
Madaripur Additional District and Session Judge Lailatul Ferdous handed down the sentence, reports UNB.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hired a motorbike from one Shahadat Gharami of Gouranadi upazila in Barishal district to go to Madaripur on September 11, 2013.
Later though, they took Shahadat to a remote area of Mostafapur. Instead of spending any money on the motorcycle, they decided to kill Shahadat and just take it. They then proceeded to do just that.
Shahadat's body was found by police two days later. The victim's father, Moksed Gharami, then filed the case with Sadar Police Station. Right from the start, he named three suspects.
Although they were never caught by police, they were the same trio awarded capital punishment by the court today.
