The Cabinet on Monday gave a final nod to the draft of Cyber Security Act 2023 replacing the widely criticised Digital Security Act 2018 with amendments to some clauses of the existing law and the addition of new penalties for hacking-related offences.
The Cyber Security Act 2023 was approved in principle in the regular Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After the meeting, Law Minister Anisul Huq told journalists that the Cabinet gave the final approval of the act by keeping two clauses bailable.
The minister also said they have changed many clauses of the act and have only upgraded the Digital Security Act 2018 to the Cyber Security Act 2023.
