Fire service and civil defence divers on Monday morning recovered the body of a one-and-a-half year old boy, who went missing after falling into a drain in the Chattogram city’s Halishahar area on Sunday afternoon, 16 hours after his missing, reports Daily Sun.
The body was recovered around 9 am on Monday, said Kafil Uddin, an officer of Agrabad Fire Station.
The boy was identified as Yasin Arafat, son of Saddam Hossain of Rongipara in Halishahar area.
Sources said Yasin went out of his house and fell into the drain beside KM Hashem Tower of the area around 5:00pm.
On information, members of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) department rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
The drain was waterlogged in the morning. Though the water drained out later, huge garbage were hampering the rescue operation there.
Mentionable, three people were killed in such accidents in the city and district in the last two years.
Vegetable vendor Saleh Ahmed, 65, fell into waterlogged drain and went missing on August 25 in 2021. His whereabouts couldn’t be known in two years.
On September 27 of the same year, International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) Computer Engineering department student Seherin Mahbub Sadia, 19, fell into another drain in front of Jacks Market in the city’s Agrabad area.
Her body was recovered four hours after the incident occurred.
