Laily Begum lost her father at the tender age of four. She is one of eight children born to her parents.
Her brother, a van driver by profession, struggled to meet the expenses of the family. When Laily grew up, she started working as a day-labourer. The financial hardship robbed her of her fundamental right to education. She was just 13 years old when her family married her off to a worker of a nearby factory.
She has two daughters and a son. Her elder daughter did the SSC while the younger daughter is in fifth grade and the son in first grade.
Laily faced the daunting task of bearing the cost of education for her three children, but she was determined about their higher education. She was harbouring a desire to be self-reliant.
As Laily learned about the cost-free training at Bashundhara Shuvosangho Training Centre, she availed herself of the opportunity. She started learning to sew at the centre with unwavering enthusiasm.
Thanks to the support of Bashundhara Group, she has now received a sewing machine from Shuvosangho after completing the training course. The new sewing machine has brought a smile to her face.
In her reaction, Laily said, “I’ll now be able to afford the cost of education for my daughters and teach them to become self-reliant alongside meeting family expenditure.”
Another recipient of a sewing machine is Ambia Khatun whose husband is a farmer, but prolonged sickness resulted in him being unemployed. The couple is blessed with a son and a daughter. She was in deep crisis shouldering the responsibility of her husband and two children.
Against the backdrop, her son started work instead of attending classes, but the earning of her son was not enough to support the family.
As she came to know about the cost-free training at Shuvosangho Training Centre, she wasted no time grasping the opportunity.
Upon successful completion of the course, she was also presented with a sewing machine, a tool that not only offers a livelihood but also promises a more secure future.
The joy of Ambia now knows no bounds. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bashundhara Group for providing training and sewing machine which will enable me to be self-dependent and stand by other helpless people.”
