Rakhi is a student of class-X at Taragunia Secondary High School in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia. She lives with grandparents and elder brother in Taragunia Kaipal village.
Rakhi’s father died shortly after her birth. After the death of father, her mother got married and moved to another place. Since then, Rakhi and her elder brother have been living with their grandparents. Rakhi's brother is suffering from a terminal illness. He cannot do any work.
Earlier, her grandfather used to work as a daily wage earner. But due to old age, he cannot work regularly now. So Rakhi's family has to spend most of the days with half food. Rakhi cannot go to regular school now. But she has dreams of continuing her study and serving the country and the people as a police officer in the future. She started looking for ways to earn money to fulfil her dreams and support the family financially.
In the meantime, Rakhi came to know that a social organisation will provide sewing training and machines under a social programme of Bashundhara group. She took part in the training programme of Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Recently Rakhi received a sewing machine as a gift from Bashundhara Group.
“Bashundhara Group is showing hope for my family's survival in the current situation. Now I can support the family financially and continue my study. The training and sewing machine help me a lot. May Allah bless everyone related to the Bashundhara Group,” said Rakhi after receiving the sewing machine.
Another struggling woman is Kohli Akhter who has four children. Among two sons and two daughters, the eldest son is studying at graduation level in Chittagong University. Another son is studying in class-X and daughter in grade two. Another daughter is only five years old.
Kohli's husband is bedridden for a long time due to brain stroke. The family is going through a financial hardship as the only bread earner of the family is now ill.
The eldest son can somehow afford his own expenses through tuition. But it is not possible for him to bear the expenses of the family. Kohli Akhter is providing food to the family members with a little help from her brother. But she wants to earn himself.
She learned that Bashundhara Group provided free sewing training at Shuvosangho Training Centre. After the training, Bashundhara Group gave a sewing machine to bring back prosperity to the family. Kohli got emotional after getting the sewing machine. She prayed for the Chairman of Bashundhara Group and his family.
