US Congresswoman Lois Frankel sees ‘hypocrisy’ in the way the US reacts to other countries’ elections or governments without worrying about its own affairs.
Frankel, also an influential member of the committee on Labour, Health, Human Resources and Education in the US Congress, made the observation while attending a meeting of Bangladeshi origin American in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday.
The event was organised by the Bangladeshi American Democratic Club and the Bangladeshi American Community of Florida.
“If we criticise the government or the electoral system of Bangladesh in the terrible situation that is going on with the politics, administration, and human rights of the US electoral system, even in this state of Florida, Isn't hypocrisy?,” she said.
Lois Frankel said that she has already talked to the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Washington and learned in detail about the development progress of Bangladesh and the steps taken in the field of providing shelter to 1.3 million Rohingya refugees, development of democratic system and rule of law as well as forming a strong Election Commission for fair elections.
Regarding the Bangladesh elections at the meeting, he said, “I will go back to Capitol Hill and talk to my colleagues again – to keep an eye on any situation so that the upcoming elections in Bangladesh are not disrupted.”
The politician of the Democratic Party said, “We who are Democrats believe in American values and try to do everything that way. But what did others do in the last election in the United States? Shall we forget the nefarious conspiracy to wipe out the ballot system?”
