A total of 38,429 dengue cases have been reported in the month of July, seven times higher than that of June, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday - and there are still a couple of days to count, reports UNB.
The number of dengue patients in June was 5,056 while the health authorities have logged 38,429 dengue cases in July, said Dr. Shahadat Hossain, director of DGHS, while speaking at a press briefing on Sunday.
He also urged the city corporation officials to strengthen their anti-mosquito drive and ask people to assist the city corporation to reduce the rate of dengue cases.
Most dengue patients are undergoing treatment at Mugda General hospital and during analysis, it is found that children living in Dhaka are infected with dengue more than the children living outside Dhaka, he said.
Mentioning that all the beds at dengue corners in the hospitals are filled with patients and a few are vacant, the DGHS director said “We are taking steps so that people infected with dengue can take treatment at hospitals."
Bangladesh reported 2731 new dengue cases in the 24 hours till Sunday Morning.
The official death toll from dengue remains at 247 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new patients, 1184 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it.
A total of 9,418 patients, including 5,147 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 49,138 dengue cases, 39,473 recoveries this year.
The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 – the highest on record after 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Also, it recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
