Awami League (AL) on Friday nominated Sajjadul Hasan, former senior secretary of the government and AL's information and research subcommittee member, to contest the Netrokona-4 constituency by-election, reports UNB.
The party picked its candidate for contesting the election at a meeting of its Parliamentary Nomination Board held at Ganabhaban with party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Sajjadul's father Akhlakul Hossain was a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.
"Bangabandhu nominated his father for contesting in the 1970 election from Mohanganj and Barhatta constituency and he (Akhlakul) was also elected Provincial Assembly Member."
The Netrokona-4 fell vacant following the death of lawmaker Rebecca Momin on July 11.
According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the aspirants could collect and submit nomination forms till July 24.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on July 25 while the aspirants could withdraw their candidatures by July 31.
The symbol will be allocated on August 1 and polling will be held on September 2.
