A number of 46 insolvent patients received charge-free eye operations from Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) on Thursday.
BEHRI, an ophthalmic venture of country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, in collaboration with AKM Abu Taher Foundation and Vision Care Foundation arranged the operations at the hospital at Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka.
Under supervision of BEHRI director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, eye surgeons Dr Rubina Akter and Dr Mozumder Golam Rabbi took part in the operations.
Of the surgery recipient patients, 26 patients were male and 20 female.
Talking to journalists, Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed said “We arranged daylong eye camp at Jhalampur under Barura upazila of Cumilla on May 19 and examined 3,000 patients. Forty six patients belong to the first group of 350 persons selected for operations.”
The BEHRI provides poor patients with treatment and surgery facilities with its free and zakat funds, he said adding “any proposal from any part of the country for eye camp will be responded by us.”
Ahsan Habib, manager of BEHRI, said the hospital has been continuing free treatment and surgery for poor since long.
“More than 2,546 people have received cost-free operations from Bashundhara Eye Hospital so far,” he added.
